Though the plant can reproduce byseeds, it is more likely to reproduce through its extensive root system. This makes it hard to manage as it is an aggressive plant. It can take over forested areas and make it difficult for wildlife to navigate through the dense brush.

All stems must be treated. If a single stem survives it can regenerate. Monitor the site to ensure no stems re-sprout.
The name relates to the red foliage that appears in the fall. The acorns can be used as a food source, when mature in two years. Historically the bark was scraped off and boiled to be used as a decoction for bowel trouble, especially inchildren.
