Smooth brome grass produces a prolific amount of seeds which can spread by wind, water, birds, and mammals. There is evidence that these seeds can pass through the digestive tract of animals and survive. It often spreads into degraded prairies, roadsides, and ditches.
Mow repeatedly and apply herbicide after.
Spot spray as needed.
Prairie dropseed is a great plant for gardens as it forms large clumps with whimsical blades rotating outward in a circle. It is a good plant to use for erosion control and in rain gardens. Unlike most grasses, this one produces small fragrant flowers.

Growing up to 6 feet tall, this robust native plant has the ability to spread 5 to 10 feet per year. Similar to Birdsfoot trefoil, it can be used for erosion control due to its deep roots. It can be used as a resource for thatching to support earth coverings.
